Checks: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Checks is workforce scheduling and time registration software from Integral Knowledge Utilization in Weesp, aimed at organisations with complex rosters. Planners work with a planning board on which staff are scheduled by shift, task, workplace or project, with automatic scheduling, shift patterns and checks against collective agreements and the Dutch Working Hours Act. Employees view their roster in the ChecksApp or the web module MyChecks, submit availability, request leave, swap shifts and register hours. The reporting module ChecksCounts shows staffing, hours and allowances. It integrates with calendars and accounting packages.

Protime acquired Checks in 2026; according to its website Protime is based in Belgium and belongs to the SD Worx Group, which per its own releases has its seat in Antwerp, with WorxInvest as majority and CVC as minority shareholder. According to the supplier the software runs via Azure on Integral's servers or locally, and the database can be local too. Azure is run by the US company Microsoft, so the CLOUD Act may apply. The region is not stated: ask. Integral offers a data processing agreement.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Checks

Checks is headquartered in the Netherlands and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in Belgium, also within Europe.

Checks runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Checks is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Checks together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
