Mongoose is an embedded web server and networking library for microcontrollers, written in C. It consists of two files that combine a TCP/IP stack, HTTP, WebSocket, MQTT, TLS and over-the-air firmware updates. The product family also includes Mongoose OS, a framework for IoT firmware, and Mongoose Wizard, a visual dashboard builder. The library runs on the device itself and does not depend on a cloud service.
The developer, Cesanta Software Ltd, is based in Dublin, Ireland. The library is dual-licensed under GPLv2 and a commercial licence, and its source code is published on GitHub, so an organisation can review the code and run it on its own devices and infrastructure. Cesanta also offers mDash, a device management cloud, which the vendor states is hosted at mdash.net or on the customer's own infrastructure. For a European organisation, the GPLv2 option and the Irish seat make the library auditable without dependence on an external service.
