Qontrol: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Qontrol is a SaaS platform for steering the cyber function, centred on Qontrol vCISO. It is aimed at vCISOs, consultants, MSPs and MSSPs working for several clients, and also at small and mid-sized organisations and local authorities. The platform gives a multi-client view of compliance, risk and progress, with reusable templates for resources, risks and projects. It covers a range of frameworks, including ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA, CRA, TISAX and the GDPR. Clients get their own workspace, and there are a pre-sales module and a short employee questionnaire for usage diagnostics.

Qontrol is the trading name of Articule SAS, a French company in Paris, and its site names no parent company. According to its privacy policy, customer data is hosted by OVH in France. Some supporting services, such as authentication, payments and error monitoring, are in the US; transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. Optional AI features are off by default and send data to a US AI processor when enabled. A data processing agreement is available.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Qontrol

Qontrol is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Qontrol scores best on data residency.

Qontrol is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Qontrol together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
