RegLab: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

RegLab is software for complying with the Wwft, the Dutch anti-money-laundering law, aimed at lawyers, notaries, tax advisers, accountants, administration offices and investment institutions. The application guides clients and staff through the process: client identification via a link, onboarding, automated screening for PEPs, sanctions, watchlists and adverse media, an audit trail, risk profiles, dashboards and export for supervisors. A Voda module for lawyers and compliance services such as audits and training complement the offering. The software connects with other systems.

RegLab is based in Haarlem, the Netherlands. In February 2026 the company announced a majority investment by Smile Sail, an evergreen private-equity fund described as Benelux-based; the announcement does not state in which country the fund has its seat. According to its information-security page, the product infrastructure is hosted exclusively within the European Union, in a private cloud with backups in zone-redundant EU storage; the country and provider are not named, although the page mentions Azure. The privacy policy refers to the GDPR. Ask for the data-centre country and the sub-processors.

Why digital sovereignty matters with RegLab

RegLab is headquartered in NL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so RegLab scores best on data residency.

RegLab is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs RegLab together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
