Siemens Industrial Edge is an edge computing platform for factories. It brings apps and analytics to edge devices on the shop floor, which are managed centrally. Its parts are a central management system for devices, apps and users; edge devices (industrial PCs and ARM-based devices, including third-party hardware); and apps from Siemens, third parties or the customer, such as a virtualised controller, an HMI and OEE monitoring. Drivers link shop-floor assets to cloud platforms, ERP, MES/SCADA and MQTT brokers. The management system is offered as a fully managed cloud service (IEM Cloud), and Siemens also mentions an on-premises option. A Mendix on Edge plug-in lets automation engineers build low-code apps.
Siemens Digital Industries, the provider, is headquartered in Germany. The sources do not say where IEM Cloud is hosted; the on-premises option keeps management inside the customer's own network. The software is proprietary. Ask Siemens about the hosting location and data processing terms.
