Verizon Connect: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Verizon Connect is a fleet management and telematics platform. Its Reveal platform combines GPS tracking of vehicles and assets, AI dashcams, compliance monitoring and electric-vehicle monitoring, with dashboards and reporting. It is delivered as a cloud service, with hardware in the vehicles and a web interface for the fleet manager.

Verizon Connect is part of Verizon Communications, a US group. In October 2025 Geotab took over the commercial operations of Verizon Connect in markets including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Poland; product development and engineering stayed with Verizon. Verizon states that the customer is the controller and that Verizon acts as processor on instructions, and it holds approved Binding Corporate Rules for transfers outside the EEA. Verizon also processes data outside the EEA. For a European organisation this means location and driver data held by a US group, with exposure to the CLOUD Act. The service is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Verizon Connect

Verizon Connect is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Verizon Connect hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Verizon Connect is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Verizon Connect together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
