XTM Cloud: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

XTM Cloud is the translation management system (TMS) of XTM International, a translation and localisation platform for enterprises. It is delivered as a cloud platform with more than eighty integrations and custom APIs. XTM's wider product range includes Transifex for software and website localisation, XTRF and FlowFit for business and translation management, and an AI layer, XTM IQ, that translates, scores and routes content. It is aimed at enterprises, mid-market companies and language service providers, with localisation managers, developers, marketing teams and linguists as users.

According to XTM, the platform meets SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and GDPR standards, and customer data is not used to train AI. For organisations with strict data-residency requirements, XTM mentions a private cloud deployment. XTM Cloud is not open source. In February 2021, XTM International received a growth equity investment from K1 Investment Management. A European organisation should have the company's place of establishment, its ownership and the hosting region of the environment it uses confirmed in writing when contracting.

Why digital sovereignty matters with XTM Cloud

XTM Cloud is headquartered in HU and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so XTM Cloud scores best on data residency.

XTM Cloud is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs XTM Cloud together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
