Eclipse Zenoh is an open-source protocol that unifies communication, storage and computation for data in motion and at rest, from data centres down to microcontrollers. It supports messaging, queries and distributed storage, and it is used in robotics and automotive projects. It is distributed under the Eclipse Public License 2.0 or the Apache License 2.0, and organisations deploy it on their own devices and infrastructure as an open alternative to proprietary publish/subscribe middleware.
Eclipse Zenoh is an incubating project of the Eclipse Foundation, which is based in Brussels. It is developed together with ZettaScale Technology, a company based in Saint-Aubin, France, which also sells commercial products built on the technology, including a cloud-to-device platform and DDS implementations. Because the code is open and runs on the customer's own systems, European organisations can assess and operate it without depending on the cloud of a non-European vendor.
