Apple Music is Apple's subscription music streaming service, launched in 2015. It offers ad-free listening, offline downloads, lossless and spatial audio, radio stations, personalised recommendations, playlists, synchronised lyrics and a separate app for classical music. It runs on Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod and CarPlay, and also on Android, Windows, the web and third-party devices such as smart TVs, game consoles and speakers.
Apple Music is operated by Apple Inc., an American company headquartered in Cupertino, California. Apple states that it generally stores personal data in the United States through Apple Inc., and that data of users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland is controlled by Apple Distribution International Limited in Ireland, with transfers governed by Standard Contractual Clauses. The service records listening activity, account and device details and approximate location. For a European organisation, the American parent means that US access rules such as the CLOUD Act can be relevant.
