Cloudability, now offered as IBM Cloudability, is a FinOps platform for tracking, allocating, forecasting and optimising cloud and AI spend. It is aimed at FinOps practitioners, DevOps engineers, IT finance teams and procurement. According to the vendor, capabilities include cost allocation, tagging, unit economics, anomaly detection, budget alerts, rightsizing, commitment-discount recommendations and cost allocation for Kubernetes containers. The service is delivered as a hosted product, with regional login portals for the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
Apptio, a company based in Bellevue, Washington, acquired Cloudability in 2019, and IBM has owned Apptio since August 2023. The product therefore sits under US ownership and US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. The software is not open source. The vendor's product page does not say where customer data is hosted, so a European organisation should settle hosting region, subprocessors and data transfers in the contract.
