Carbonfact is an environmental data platform for apparel and footwear brands, covering carbon accounting, product life-cycle assessments, emissions reporting, data management, decarbonisation and digital product passports. TechCrunch describes the company as a French startup. The platform is a proprietary software-as-a-service product.
According to its privacy policy, the operator of the website is Kanso SAS, a French company. The website footer and legal notice, however, name Kanso, Inc., whose registered office is in Wilmington, Delaware. The relationship between the two entities is not clear from public sources. The privacy policy states that personal data is stored and processed within the European Union, in Frankfurt, Germany, and that some sub-processors are located outside the EU and EEA. The sub-processor list is published on a separate security page. The product is not open source. For a European organisation, the main data location is therefore the EU, but the US registration makes it worth confirming which company is the contracting party.
