Chime is a US financial technology company that offers online consumer banking through an app and website. Its products include a checking account with a debit card, a savings account, a secured credit card, early access to earned pay, and investing in stocks and ETFs. Chime states that it is not a bank: accounts are provided by partner banks, The Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank, N.A., and deposits are FDIC-insured through those banks. The service is aimed at residents of the United States.
Chime is headquartered in San Francisco and listed on the Nasdaq. As a US company it falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. Opening an account requires a US address and a US Social Security number. The software is proprietary and available only as a managed service. For European organisations Chime is therefore mainly a reference point from the US market rather than a practical alternative.
