Datawise KoRe: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Datawise KoRe is software from Datawise GmbH for cost accounting in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics and psychiatric services. Users run a cost allocation according to REKOLE, VKL or their own rules and configure it through an Excel add-in. It provides an audit report and data deliveries such as SpiGes or ANQ at the push of a button. A BI platform based on a data warehouse for clinical and financial reporting is also part of the offer, analysed with Power BI and Excel.

Datawise GmbH is headquartered in Aarau, Switzerland, and addresses customers in Switzerland. That country is outside the EU, but it is an EFTA member with a European adequacy decision. According to the vendor, the software runs entirely on your own infrastructure, in your own data centre, so financial and patient data do not leave your network. The reporting layer does use Microsoft Power BI, Excel and SQL Server. For a European healthcare organisation, the dependence on Microsoft components and the effort of running your own installation are worth weighing.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Datawise KoRe

Datawise KoRe is headquartered in Switzerland and falls under Swiss law, including the revised Swiss data protection act. Switzerland is not an EU member, but the European Commission recognises its level of data protection as adequate. Its Swiss headquarters does not by itself bring it under US legislation such as the CLOUD Act.

Datawise KoRe runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Datawise KoRe is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Datawise KoRe together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
