Greenly: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Greenly is a climate data platform that lets companies measure, report and reduce their carbon and environmental footprint. It covers carbon footprint assessment (Bilan Carbone), life cycle analysis, centralisation of ESG data with audit-ready reporting, decarbonisation action plans and supplier engagement. The platform supports frameworks and regulations such as CSRD, VSME, CBAM, EUDR, PPWR and EcoVadis, and includes EcoPilot, an AI assistant. It is aimed at companies from SMEs to large groups. Greenly is a cloud service and is not open source.

Greenly is a brand of OFFSPEND SAS, based in Paris. According to its legal notice, it is hosted by Heroku, a subsidiary of US-based Salesforce; the notice does not say where the data is physically located. In September 2026, Greenly announced a combination with Swedish rival Normative of Stockholm, whose shareholders join the existing investors. A European organisation should therefore check the hosting region and the role of the US infrastructure provider.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Greenly

Greenly is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Greenly scores best on data residency.

Greenly is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Greenly together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
