Hourtick: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Hourtick is a work platform that combines a task board, team chat and time tracking for people and AI agents. It is aimed at businesses that bill by the hour, such as agencies, consultants, accountants and software teams. AI agents can be assigned tasks and log their own time; you track hours with a timer in the browser or the Mac menu bar, and invoices go out through your own Stripe account. A REST API and an MCP server are available. Hourtick is delivered as a hosted service.

Hourtick is operated by WeCode A/S in Copenhagen, Denmark. According to its privacy policy, the application servers and the database run on Akamai Cloud in Frankfurt and files are stored in the EU by default; a workspace administrator can instead choose US file storage. The company lists US-based subprocessors such as Akamai, Cloudflare, Stripe and Google and relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers. Hourtick is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Hourtick

Hourtick is headquartered in DK and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Hourtick hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Hourtick is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Hourtick together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
