RTMaps (Intempora): sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

RTMaps is a modular middleware from Intempora for developing, testing and running real-time multisensor applications. Teams use it for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving, but also for mobile robotics, energy and system monitoring. In the graphical environment RTMaps Studio you connect components into an application; there are also variants for embedded use, an AI store and a validation suite. The software is downloaded and installed under a licence agreement.

Intempora SAS is based in Paris. According to its own company page, Germany's dSPACE acquired it in 2020; the legal notice calls it part of the dSPACE group, which is based in Paderborn (Germany) according to the dSPACE website. Because the software runs locally, hosting of customer data by the vendor is not at issue; the website itself is hosted by Scaleway in France. If you use cloud or update features, ask the vendor which data is sent to it.

Why digital sovereignty matters with RTMaps (Intempora)

RTMaps (Intempora) is headquartered in France and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in Germany, also within Europe.

RTMaps (Intempora) runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

RTMaps (Intempora) is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs RTMaps (Intempora) together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
