Kodex (KIProtect): sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Kodex is an open-source toolkit for privacy and security engineering, developed by KIProtect GmbH. It reads data from sources such as files, databases or message queues, applies protection transformations and sends the results to a destination. Workflows are defined in declarative "blueprints", comparable to infrastructure-as-code. Pseudonymisation is available, with Kodex either generating and storing keys or accepting your own key; anonymisation is listed as a planned feature on the roadmap. The Community Edition is installed by the user; a separate paid Enterprise Edition adds, among other things, a REST API, a web interface and role-based access control.

KIProtect is based in Germany. The Community Edition is published under the AGPL-3.0 licence, with a commercial licence available for integration into closed-source software. Because you run Kodex yourself, the data and the pseudonymisation keys stay within your own infrastructure and you decide where they are located. A hosted variant of Kodex is not described on the pages consulted.
