Cookie Information: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Cookie Information is a consent management platform that blocks cookies until consent is given, scans the site for new trackers, flags hidden scripts and keeps an audit trail. It also offers analytics, integrations and a banner preview. A trial period and a sales contact option are offered; the main page does not describe how the banner is embedded.

Cookie Information is headquartered in Copenhagen, with an office in Wrocław, Poland. In 2022 the Danish family office Kirk Kapital acquired a 40 per cent stake, and in 2023 the company merged with the Polish analytics platform Piwik PRO. According to the company's legal FAQ, consent data is stored on Microsoft Azure servers in the Netherlands, no sub-processors are used and no personal data is collected or stored to run the service. The infrastructure is therefore located in the EU but supplied by a US cloud provider. The software is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Cookie Information

Cookie Information is headquartered in DK and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Cookie Information scores best on data residency.

Cookie Information is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Cookie Information together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
