Kuadrant is an open-source project that extends the Kubernetes Gateway API with a connectivity management layer. Platform teams attach policies for TLS, DNS, application authentication and authorisation, and rate limiting to gateways. It works with gateway providers such as Istio and Envoy Gateway and provides observability templates. It is installed on Kubernetes with Helm or the Operator Lifecycle Manager (OLM). The project website describes it as a sandbox project of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, originally created by Red Hat.
The code is released under the Apache 2.0 licence and runs on the organisation's own Kubernetes clusters. The project does not describe a hosted service of its own. Governance sits with the CNCF, a Linux Foundation project with its seat in the United States. For a European organisation, the sovereignty question is mainly the Kubernetes environment it runs in: the software can be operated and audited on European infrastructure, while the governance and community are based in the United States.
