Moody's ESG Solutions is the unit of Moody's Corporation that provides data, scores and assessments on environmental, social and governance risks and on climate risk. The offering includes company ESG assessments, controversy screening, climate risk scores for countries, regions and cities, and reviews of sustainable bonds and loans. Banks, asset managers and other financial institutions use it for risk management and reporting. The unit was formed in 2020 and draws, among other things, on the work of Paris-based Vigeo Eiris.
Moody's Corporation is headquartered in New York and is subject to US jurisdiction. In 2019 Moody's acquired a majority stake in Vigeo Eiris, which stayed headquartered in Paris. For European financial institutions that buy ESG data to meet reporting obligations, the service is supplied by a US provider; contractual terms on data processing and on the origin of the data are therefore advisable.
