Phrase TMS is the translation management system of the Phrase platform and was formerly known as Memsource. Enterprises and language service providers use it to manage translation projects, translation memories and terminology, with workflow automation, quality estimation and analytics. It connects to AI translation engines, including large language models and customers' own engines, and offers APIs, webhooks and integrations with tools such as GitHub, Figma and Contentful. It is a cloud service, and its regional addresses still use the Memsource name.
Phrase GmbH is based in Hamburg, Germany, alongside Phrase a.s. in Prague, formerly Memsource a.s. When Memsource acquired Phrase in January 2021, the US investment firm Carlyle was reported as Memsource's majority shareholder; current ownership is not stated on Phrase's own pages. Customers choose an EU data centre (AWS, Ireland) or a US data centre (AWS, US East) at sign-up and switch only through a new subscription. Phrase does not commit to keeping data in one jurisdiction at all times, and third-party machine translation engines may process data elsewhere. The software is proprietary and not open source.
