SearXNG is a free metasearch engine. It forwards a query to many search services and databases and combines the results on a single page, without tracking or profiling users. It is server-side software: you can use one of the public instances listed on searx.space, or run your own instance with Docker or a manual installation behind a web server such as NGINX or Apache.
SearXNG is a community project, a fork of the discontinued searx, rather than a company, so it has no commercial vendor, headquarters or parent company. It is released under the GNU AGPL-3.0, which means the source code can be inspected and modified. Where queries are processed depends on where the instance runs: operated in an EU data centre or on your own premises, the instance stays under your control, although the upstream engines still receive the forwarded queries. The project notes that US-based engines remain subject to US law enforcement requests.
