TheHive is a collaborative case management platform for security incident response, used by incident responders and security teams to work on cases together. It is developed by StrangeBee, a cybersecurity company founded in 2018 by TheHive's creators, which also builds Cortex, the analysis engine that works alongside it. TheHive can be self-hosted on premises, used as SaaS (TheHive Cloud Platform) in a dedicated AWS environment, or deployed from IaaS cloud images.
StrangeBee is based in Paris. Earlier versions of TheHive were open source. Since TheHive 5, StrangeBee distributes it as a commercial product with a free Community licence and paid licences, including one for managed security service providers; the company states that the code is not publicly available, and the older public repositories have been archived. The TheHive4py library remains open source. For a European organisation, a self-hosted installation keeps data on its own infrastructure, whereas the SaaS edition runs on AWS, a US provider, so the hosting region should be confirmed with the vendor.
