TIDAL is a subscription music-streaming service with high-fidelity audio (FLAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz and Dolby Atmos), music videos, live-streamed concerts and podcasts. It runs on platforms including iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and car systems and is aimed at consumers. The service is not available as open-source software or for self-hosting; you use it as a hosted service.
TIDAL goes back to WiMP, which launched in Norway in 2010; the TIDAL brand was launched by Aspiro in 2014. In 2021 the US company Block (then Square) became majority owner, while Jay-Z and other artist shareholders kept their stakes. A US parent company is a CLOUD Act signal for European customers.
