WithSecure: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

WithSecure is a Finnish cybersecurity company, formerly F-Secure Business, founded in 1988. Its Elements platform brings together exposure management, extended detection and response (XDR) and co-security services, and the Elements Security Center is a single console covering endpoints, identities, cloud workloads and threats. WithSecure also offers Cloud Protection for Salesforce. The services are delivered as a cloud platform.

WithSecure is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. In 2025 a consortium of CVC funds and WithSecure's founder and chair, Risto Siilasmaa, made a public tender offer through Diana BidCo Oy, a Finnish company held indirectly via Luxembourg holding companies. The offer was completed in October 2025 with about 93 percent of the shares, and the buyer announced plans to delist the company from Nasdaq Helsinki. After the deal, CVC was expected to hold about 73 percent and Siilasmaa about 27 percent of the holding company. WithSecure emphasises European digital sovereignty and data protection; the sources consulted do not state its hosting regions, which are worth confirming with the vendor.

Why digital sovereignty matters with WithSecure

WithSecure is headquartered in FI and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in LU, also within Europe.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so WithSecure scores best on data residency.

WithSecure is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs WithSecure together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
