AlekSIS is a free and extensible school information system: a web application (Django and Vue.js) for the administrative side of running a school. It consists of a core with official apps for timetables, digital class records and person and group management, among other things, and outside developers can add their own modules. According to the project, schools can host it themselves, have a chosen service operator run it, or use it as a service from project partners.
AlekSIS is maintained by Teckids e.V., a registered association in Bonn, Germany. The software is released under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL), so you can inspect and modify the source code and run it on your own servers. When self-hosted, pupil and staff data stay within your own infrastructure; with a partner-hosted setup, the data location depends on that partner. The project's partner page lists companies that offer support. Development was co-funded through NLnet and the EU's NGI0 Entrust programme.
