Autodesk Inventor is a CAD application for 3D mechanical design, simulation, visualisation and documentation. Engineers use it to build virtual product models and check fit, form and function before manufacturing. It supports parametric and direct-edit part modelling, freeform surface modelling and assembly design, works with standard DWG drawings and imports most foreign CAD formats. It is proprietary desktop software for Windows, built on Autodesk's own ShapeManager modelling kernel, and is licensed by subscription or through pre-paid, consumption-based Flex Tokens.
Autodesk is a publicly listed company headquartered in San Francisco, California, and is therefore subject to US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. Inventor files are created in the desktop application, while connected cloud services are operated by Autodesk. Its regional data storage options, including the EU, UK and Germany, apply to eligible cloud services, and Inventor itself is not on that list. European organisations should check where connected services store their data.
