Autodesk Vault is a product data management (PDM) system that lets engineering teams store and manage CAD files and related documents in one place. It works with design software such as Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit and Civil 3D and provides version control, tracking of work in progress and storage of non-CAD files such as Word and Excel documents. According to Autodesk, the Professional edition adds integration with ERP systems and an item master.
Autodesk, Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco (US) and publicly listed; it has no foreign parent. Vault traditionally runs as server software on the customer's own Windows server, with a central SQL database and a Data Management Server. CAD data then sits on your own infrastructure, so you decide where it is stored. Autodesk remains a US company, however, so licensing, updates and any connected cloud services fall under US jurisdiction. It is not documented whether the regional storage choices Autodesk lists for cloud products such as Autodesk Docs apply to Vault itself.
