BeReal is a social app built around a single daily ritual. Users receive a notification and post a photo within a random two-minute window, using the front and back cameras at the same time. The app has no filters and no uploads from the camera roll; friends see each other's everyday moments in a feed. Groups, mentions and a friends-of-friends feed have been added since. BeReal is offered as a mobile app (SaaS) and is not open source.
BeReal SAS is based in Paris, France. In 2024 it was acquired by Voodoo, a French publisher of mobile apps and games. According to its privacy policy, BeReal SAS is the data controller and service providers for hosting, analytics and security take part in the processing; some are outside the EU, and transfers rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. The policy does not say where data is hosted. For a European organisation BeReal is mainly a consumer app, and any business use would need further enquiries about hosting.
