Global Mapper is a desktop geographic information system (GIS) application from Blue Marble Geographics. It combines data processing, spatial analysis, geodetic workflows and deployment-ready mapping in a single program. It is used, among others, by surveyors, engineers and public bodies to process lidar and other spatial data. The product is installed on the user's own computer rather than run as a vendor-hosted platform.
Blue Marble Geographics is headquartered in Hallowell, Maine (United States). In April 2026 the company was acquired by Eterna Growth Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm, and combined with Avenza Systems of Toronto under the Blue Marble Geographics name. Because the software runs locally, project data stays on your own systems unless you choose to use the vendor's cloud or field apps. The privacy policy names no central storage location and lists US and German service providers for functions such as analytics and marketing. The vendor publishes a GDPR notice describing data subject rights.
