Brainlab develops hardware and software for surgery and radiation therapy. Its portfolio includes image-guided surgery and navigation systems, robotic platforms, a mixed reality viewer, and radiosurgery and radiotherapy products such as Novalis, ExacTrac Dynamic and the Elements software suite. It serves hospitals, surgeons and radiation oncology departments. Brainlab Cloud Services, built on Quentry, adds a hosted clinical network in which medical professionals and supporting staff share images.
Brainlab is a privately held company headquartered in Munich, Germany. It converted from an Aktiengesellschaft to a European Stock Corporation (SE) in 2025, and its founder, Stefan Vilsmeier, chairs the administrative board. For Brainlab Cloud Services, the company states that patient data of registered users in Europe is stored on servers in the EU, while data of registered users in the US is stored on servers in the US. File data is stored with Amazon Web Services (S3), so the infrastructure provider is a US company. The products are proprietary and not open source.
