CARTO is a cloud platform for location intelligence and spatial analysis, aimed at data analysts, data scientists, GIS professionals and developers. It offers low-code spatial analysis with ready-made components and machine-learning integrations, visualisation of very large datasets on maps, building of map applications and AI agents, and enrichment with data from its Data Observatory. CARTO runs on top of cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift and Databricks, so data can stay where it already lives.
CARTO is headquartered in New York, with offices in Madrid and Seville; it was founded in Madrid in 2012. As a US company it is subject to US law such as the CLOUD Act. Organisations choose a region for their tenant: US East, Europe West, Japan or Australia. All of an organisation's data, such as maps and workflows, is stored in the selected region, and the tenants run on Google Cloud Platform. The product is not open source.
