code_saturne is an open-source software package for computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the numerical simulation of fluid flows, heat transfer and the transport of pollutants. It is developed primarily by EDF R&D, the research division of the French electricity utility, and applied to industrial and research problems in hydraulics and in maritime, river and estuarine settings. Users download the software and install it on their own computers or servers. The project site lists version 9.0 as the current validated release.
EDF R&D belongs to EDF, which has its registered office in Paris and is wholly owned by the French state. The organisation that maintains the software is therefore established in the European Union. The package stores no data itself, and the developer offers no cloud service. The GPL licence allows a European organisation to inspect the code, modify it and run it on infrastructure it controls. The project's web pages are operated by SIMVIA in Palaiseau, France.
