COMSOL Multiphysics is a simulation platform for building physics-based models. Its Model Builder combines multiple physics in any order and covers geometry, meshing, model setup and results in one interface. Add-on modules address electromagnetics, structural mechanics, acoustics, fluid flow, heat transfer and chemical engineering, and LiveLink products connect to CAD software. An Application Builder turns models into simulation apps, distributed with COMSOL Compiler or run through COMSOL Server. Engineers, researchers and lecturers use it.
COMSOL AB was founded in 1986 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Svante Littmarck and Farhad Saeidi, and is a private company; the sources name no parent. The software is proprietary, not open source. It is licensed per named user, per CPU or as floating network licences, installed locally on the customer's own computers, with the network used only to authenticate the licence. The sources describe no COMSOL-operated cloud service.
