The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem is the public platform for the Copernicus Sentinel satellite archive and several contributing missions. It offers access to historical and current Sentinel imagery through a browser, STAC and openEO interfaces, JupyterLab environments and a services registry for third-party providers. Commercial cloud processing options sit alongside the public service. The platform is operated by the European Space Agency, with T-Systems as processor for the public services and cloud partners providing infrastructure.
The European Space Agency is an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Paris, not an EU agency. Its privacy notice for the public services follows ESA's own data-protection framework and does not refer to the GDPR. The terms of use state that the platform's data processing facilities and data centres are in the European Union, in Belgium and Poland. Sentinel data is distributed under open terms, but the platform is not open-source software. For European users, the EU-based hosting and the public-sector operator are the key points, while the terms for each dataset still apply.
