The croit platform manages storage on commodity hardware in the customer's own data centre or colocation space, covering block, file and object storage. Besides the software, croit offers hardware, consulting, support and training. The platform targets organisations that run their own storage and virtualisation, including those migrating from VMware to Proxmox.

croit was founded in Munich in 2017 and, according to its company profile, is privately owned by its founders and one further partner, with no outside capital. Because the software runs on your own hardware, the stored data stays under your control and you choose the location. croit uses upstream Ceph and is a founding member of the Ceph Foundation.
