Datakit CrossManager: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

CrossManager is a set of standalone CAD file converters from Datakit. The software converts 2D and 3D files between many native and standard formats, such as CATIA, Creo, Inventor, NX, SolidWorks, STEP, IGES, JT, IFC and Revit, and is available with a graphical interface, a command line or for batch processing. Datakit also supplies plug-ins that integrate the converters into SolidWorks or Rhino, and an SDK with which software publishers embed the reading of technical data in their own applications. Design offices use the converters to exchange parts and assemblies between different engineering applications.

Datakit is a French cooperative company (SCOP, in the form of a SARL) based in Lyon, and no foreign parent is named. As standalone programs, the converters can be run on an organisation's own workstations or servers, so CAD files do not need to be sent to a cloud service. The vendor's account area and web shop are separate from the conversion itself. A GDPR statement for the products was not found on the pages consulted.

Score your whole stack in about three minutes. Free, no account needed.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Datakit CrossManager

Datakit CrossManager is headquartered in France and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Datakit CrossManager runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Datakit CrossManager is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Datakit CrossManager together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
