It is used by architects, engineers and designers, and by people moving from older CAD software. The package offers drawing aids and annotation and also includes 3D modelling functions. The main product is a desktop program installed on the user's own computer; cloud collaboration runs through the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

DraftSight is a product of Dassault Systèmes, a European software group headquartered in Vélizy-Villacoublay near Paris. The French company also makes SOLIDWORKS and CATIA. Because the program runs locally, drawings stay on the user's own computers unless the user chooses cloud collaboration. For where cloud data is stored, only the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is referenced; a European organisation should ask Dassault Systèmes about this.
