Employes is a payroll and HR platform for small and medium-sized businesses in the Netherlands. It covers payroll runs and payslips, leave and absence, expense claims, time registration for on-call staff, digital document signing, workflows and reports, with a mobile app for employees. The vendor aims it at small firms and at holding companies that pay their directors. It is delivered as a web application with integrations to other software.
The service is provided by Shine Employes B.V., registered in Amsterdam, which states that it complies with the GDPR and concludes processing agreements with its customers. Customer data is stored in Amazon Web Services data centres in Frankfurt and Ireland, which keeps storage within the EU; AWS itself is a US company. The privacy policy names several processors, including Segment, Intercom, HubSpot, Mixpanel and Google, some of them US-based, without setting out transfer safeguards for each. Dutch law governs the contract and the Amsterdam courts have jurisdiction. Organisations with strict transfer requirements should check the subprocessor transfers before signing.
