Exabeam: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Exabeam supplies a security operations platform for teams that detect and investigate threats. Its portfolio includes SIEM, user and entity behaviour analytics (UEBA), threat detection, investigation and response (TDIR) and SOAR. It offers a cloud-native platform, including New-Scale SIEM, New-Scale Analytics and the Exabeam Nova AI agent, and a self-hosted platform with LogRhythm SIEM, LogRhythm Intelligence and NetMon. On 17 July 2024, Exabeam and LogRhythm completed their merger, creating a new company named Exabeam.

According to its privacy policy, LogRhythm, Inc., doing business as Exabeam, is located in Broomfield, Colorado, in the United States. The policy states that personal data may be processed on servers of Exabeam or of third parties in the United States, and refers to standard contractual clauses and certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The sources consulted name no European hosting region. With the self-hosted platform, organisations can keep log data on their own infrastructure. Exabeam is proprietary software.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Exabeam

Exabeam is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Exabeam hosts data outside the EU (US). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

Exabeam is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Exabeam together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
