Freifunk München DNS is a free, unfiltered DNS resolver run by Freifunk München / Freie Netze München e.V., a German non-profit association funded entirely by donations. Responses are returned unmodified and validated with DNSSEC. It supports DNS over TLS (dot.ffmuc.net, port 853), DNS over HTTPS (https://doh.ffmuc.net/dns-query), DNS over QUIC (doq.ffmuc.net) and plain DNS. The setup page describes configuration for Android, iOS and macOS, Windows, Linux, browsers, routers (Fritz!Box, MikroTik, OpenWrt) and tools such as Pi-hole, AdGuard Home and Unbound.
The association is based in Germany. According to the service page, the servers are hosted only in the EU, in Munich and Vienna. The project states that it does not log or store users' DNS queries or IP addresses, does not sell data and uses no tracking or cookies. There is no non-European parent company. As a volunteer-run association service, it suits use as an additional or alternative resolver rather than a contractually guaranteed one.
