Foursquare Studio is a browser-based platform for geospatial analytics and map visualisation from Foursquare Labs, Inc. It builds on kepler.gl, an open-source mapping tool. Users create maps by drag and drop, connect data sources such as PostgreSQL and BigQuery, and publish maps through a link. Developers can manage Studio assets through a Data API and embed maps with a Map SDK, including in Jupyter Notebooks.
Studio is a cloud service; work is saved to the cloud automatically. The documentation does not say in which region or with which provider data is stored. Foursquare Labs is a US company, so data is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. The privacy policy mentions standard contractual clauses and a data protection officer but does not name the GDPR. A European organisation processing map data that contains personal data can use the open-source kepler.gl itself, where everything stays in the browser.
