Gatling is a load and performance testing tool for web applications, APIs and microservices. Teams write tests as code with the Java, Scala, Kotlin, JavaScript or TypeScript SDKs, or create them through low-code recording and Postman imports, and run them locally or in a CI pipeline. The free Community Edition is open source. Gatling Enterprise Edition, a proprietary product, adds orchestration, collaboration and reporting, and generates load from Gatling-managed infrastructure or from private locations that the customer runs on AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes or dedicated machines.
Gatling was created in France, and Gatling Corp is based in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris. The open-source core is licensed under Apache License 2.0, so an organisation can run tests entirely on its own infrastructure. Enterprise private locations keep the load generators inside the customer's own environment; the sources consulted do not specify where the managed Enterprise service stores results. A European organisation that needs data residency should confirm this with the vendor or use private locations.
