gvSIG is an open-source geographic information system from Spain, made up of three products: gvSIG Desktop for capturing, storing, analysing and managing geographic information on a computer; gvSIG Online for building spatial data infrastructures and geoportals; and gvSIG Mapps, a framework for developing mobile applications with a geographic component.

The software was originally developed for the regional government of Valencia. Its development is now coordinated by the gvSIG Association, a non-profit organisation in Spain. gvSIG Desktop is distributed under the GNU General Public License, so organisations can run, study and modify it on their own servers and computers. Because the association is Spanish and the products are operated by the user, a European organisation keeps control over where its geographic data is stored. An organisation using gvSIG can decide for itself how it is installed, operated and where its data is stored.
