MacWhisper is a Mac app that converts audio and video into text. It uses Whisper, Parakeet and other AI models and supports more than a hundred languages. You drag in files such as interviews, lectures or voice memos, or transcribe YouTube videos and podcasts. MacWhisper can also record meetings in Zoom, Teams and other apps without adding a bot, and offers dictation in any app. Transcripts can be searched, edited and exported as subtitles or text. For summaries and chat with transcripts, you use local models or external providers with your own API key.
MacWhisper is made by Jordi Bruin and Good Snooze in the Netherlands and is not open source. With the local models, transcription takes place on your own Mac, so sensitive files can also be processed offline. If you choose a cloud provider for transcription or summaries, data leaves your device and that provider determines the jurisdiction. This leaves you in control of where your data ends up.
