Murf AI: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Murf AI is a voice platform for voice-overs and voice agents. In Murf Studio you turn text into spoken audio with control over pitch, speed and intonation, and with your own pronunciation library. Murf also offers voice agents for phone and chat, a text-to-speech API, dubbing into other languages, voice changing and voice cloning. It is a cloud service and not open source.

Murf Group consists of Murf Inc., based in San Francisco in the United States, and its wholly owned subsidiary Murf Software Solutions Private Limited. For the Falcon 2 TTS API, Murf offers regional endpoints, including EU (Central), where input text, audio and processing stay within the selected region. Account, usage and billing data are hosted in the United States by default and remain centralised there. The regional endpoints apply only to this API, so check beforehand whether other products fall under the same arrangements. A European organisation processing personal data should also take the US parent company into account.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Murf AI

Murf AI is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Murf AI hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Murf AI is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Murf AI together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
