NI LabVIEW is a graphical programming environment for developing automated test and measurement systems. Developers build applications that control instruments from many vendors; according to NI, code developed on Windows can be recompiled for real-time and FPGA targets. NI lists LabVIEW under test automation software, alongside TestStand and VeriStand. It is downloaded and installed locally, with system requirements for processor, memory and disk space.
NI (National Instruments Corp.) was acquired by Emerson in 2023 and has since formed part of Emerson's Test & Measurement segment, which remains headquartered in Austin, United States. Emerson is based in St. Louis, also in the United States, so the vendor is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. LabVIEW runs on your own workstations and test systems, so measurement data stays local unless you set up connections to cloud services yourself. Licensing, activation and account data pass through the vendor; no GDPR commitment or hosting region is stated publicly.
