OpenModelica is an open-source environment for modelling and simulating physical systems in the Modelica language, such as mechanical, electrical, thermal and control systems. The package includes a compiler and simulation environment and supports standards such as FMI, SSP and DCP. It is used in industry, teaching and research. The software is downloadable for Windows, Linux and macOS, and also as a Docker image and a virtual machine, so it runs on the user's own computers and servers.

Development is coordinated by the Open Source Modelica Consortium, a non-profit organisation that works closely with Linköping University in Sweden. The core is released under the AGPLv3 licence, together with a GPL option of the OSMC Public License. Organisations can inspect the code and run it on their own infrastructure without a licence fee, and members receive additional rights. Simulation models and results stay on the user's systems.
