OpenTalk is a video conferencing platform for public authorities, companies, educational institutions and NGOs. It offers chat, polls, breakout rooms, an interactive whiteboard, recording, moderation controls and telephone dial-in; higher tiers add streaming and anonymous voting, among other things. OpenTalk is available as a cloud service (OpenTalk as a Service), which runs in the browser without additional software, and as an installation on the customer's own servers, connected to local user management. A free entry tier of the cloud service exists.
OpenTalk is offered by OpenTalk GmbH in Berlin, part of the Heinlein Gruppe. According to the vendor, the cloud service runs in German data centres and is operated in line with GDPR; a data processing agreement is available. The source code (frontend, Rust backend and server code) has been published under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) on the German public-sector platform OpenCoDE since February 2023. Self-hosting requires Linux administration skills. A European organisation can therefore choose between a service hosted in Germany and full control on its own infrastructure.
