The gateway can also be set to send data to a third-party cloud service. The sensors and cloud are sold to consumers and businesses, for example for temperature monitoring in cold storage.

The sources do not say where Ruuvi Cloud stores data or which hosting provider runs it. A case study states that measurement data is kept in the cloud for two years. A European organisation should therefore ask the vendor about the hosting location and processing terms, or use the gateway's third-party option to keep data with a provider of its own choice.
